We all know that times are tough, and an economic report out today indicates, for many Americans, they’re getting even tougher. The jobless rate rose to a 25 year high of 9.4 percent. What can people do? Some are finding help through Catholic Charities, which has developed programs to help those who’ve lost their jobs. One program is the “Matthew 25 Project,” which takes its name from the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 25: “Whatever you do for the least of my brethren, you do for me.” Funds are awarded to parishes for workshops, job training and emergency assistance. Our Nathalia Ortiz visited one parish benefiting from the program, St. Mary Help of Christians in Woodside.
