Celebrating not just love, but marriage, this Valentine’s Day

fran_bodyWith about half of marriages in the U.S. ending in divorce, fully believing in love and marriage over the long haul can be a challenge for some people. For others, they never had a second thought about staying together, like Bob and Melinda Nobbs, a couple married for 45 years.  They keep God at the center of their union, and through ups and downs, have used Him to help guide their marriage through sometimes turbulent waters.  They share some of their insights with me on Currents.

They’re also actively involved in Worldwide Marriage Encounter, and, World Marriage Day.  The former is a weekend retreat offering married couples a chance to enrich their relationship.  The latter is a celebration of marriage itself, held the second Sunday in February – which just happens to coincide with Valentine’s Day. Here in the Brooklyn Diocese, Worldwide Marriage Encounter will present a World Marriage Day Mass and Dinner Dance this Saturday February 6th.  It’s a fun way for couples to celebrate their union, and enjoy other couples as well.  To learn more about both, head to their website.  They say they’re there to help a couple keep its love growing, and who doesn’t want more love?

Dear Francesca and NET Staff:
Thank you for your warm welcome when we came to the studio for taping on Wednesday Feb. 3. Thank you too for the kind words of you and Matt McClure at the end of the program we saw taped Thursday night. Everyone connected with Currents seems to really care about people and this world we live in and it shows in the working atmosphere. The Catholic Church in the Brooklyn Diocese is enriched by your endeavors..
Worldwide Marriage Encounter is very grateful for all your support.
We look forward to seeing you at Immaculate Conception this evening.
Peace,
Bob and Melinda Nobbs

Thank you to the N.E.T. and specifically “Currents” for their wonderful coverage of World Priest Day last fall and World Marriage Day 2010. We have become accustomed and also numb to hearing the bad news about Marriage and divorce. Having the spot light on something positive as it relates to the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony is always welcome.

In an age when Marriage is often degraded, Worldwide MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER has accepted the call to help build up the Kingdom of God by helping to build up families and affirm those who are living their vocation through the Sacrament of Matrimony. The idea is to present a real view of marriage, both the ups and downs; how, despite difficulties, couples can remain married but it is crucial to have God actively present in their relationship. During the weekend couples get to recognize that marriage is not easy but, with God’s grace, effort and love, they can have a successful marriage. The benefit is a life of love and partnership. Thank you for supporting this beautiful ministry!
