With about half of marriages in the U.S. ending in divorce, fully believing in love and marriage over the long haul can be a challenge for some people. For others, they never had a second thought about staying together, like Bob and Melinda Nobbs, a couple married for 45 years. They keep God at the center of their union, and through ups and downs, have used Him to help guide their marriage through sometimes turbulent waters. They share some of their insights with me on Currents.
They’re also actively involved in Worldwide Marriage Encounter, and, World Marriage Day. The former is a weekend retreat offering married couples a chance to enrich their relationship. The latter is a celebration of marriage itself, held the second Sunday in February – which just happens to coincide with Valentine’s Day. Here in the Brooklyn Diocese, Worldwide Marriage Encounter will present a World Marriage Day Mass and Dinner Dance this Saturday February 6th. It’s a fun way for couples to celebrate their union, and enjoy other couples as well. To learn more about both, head to their website. They say they’re there to help a couple keep its love growing, and who doesn’t want more love?
