Last week, the New York Times ran an article about the large influx of Mexicans into the Catholic Church in the U.S. In both the headline and the article, the Times reported that the Church, particularly in New York, has been slow to adopt to this growing community. The question is: Is that the real story?
Back in 2009, Currents covered a story that was the first and, so far, only one its kind in the U.S.: an agreement between the Diocese of Brooklyn (you can watch that here). There is also the Diocese’s Migration Office, which helps Immigrants in the Diocese of Brooklyn. This weekend, that office celebrated its 40th Anniversary. We have a report on that on tonight’s program.
We’ll also have the Diocese’s Vicar for Migration, Msgr. Ronald Marino, in our studio to talk about the Times article and much more.
