Let’s face it, these are tough times. Ten percent of us are without work, and many have given up looking. But many more are just looking for ways to protect their savings – for places and ways to invest, that make sense – and cents.
I recently had a chance to talk with Mary Elizabeth Brunson of Investing for Catholics. Her organization offers typical financial products like mutual funds and bonds, but does so with Catholic Social Teaching in mind. They make sure the companies they invest in don’t derive more than a certain percentage (it ranges, but stays low, like 10-20%) of profits from things like weapons of mass destruction, pornography, tobacco, or alcohol. Investing for Catholics takes some of the guesswork out of it.
