Earlier this week, President Obama confirmed that U.S. troops would begin pulling out of Iraq by the end of this month. That would leave as little as 50,000 troops in the country, and their role would be more of an advisory one, rather than engaging in combat.
Earlier this week, Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the Archbishop Emeritus of Washington, wrote about Iraq on the Politics Daily website. He was on a mission recently to observe the plight of Iraqis displaced by war in their homeland.
The point Cardinal McCarrick makes is that withdrawing troops does not end the U.S.’s obligation to Iraq. If you want to hear what the Cardinal has to say, we have an exclusive for you. Matt McClure spoke with him by phone yesterday, and you can hear the interview on tonight’s edition of Currents.
