Try To Remember… and follow

matt_bodyWell, I just got back from a long weekend in my hometown of Atlanta.  I had such a great time seeing family and friends!  The trip centered around an awards ceremony, actually.

I was fortunate enough to be nominated for a Metropolitan Atlanta Theater Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical.  The “MAT Awards” as they’re known are for professional (non-equity) and community theater productions in the Atlanta, Georgia area.  The nomination was for my portrayal of El Gallo in the professional production of “The Fantasticks” at Button Theatre in Metro Atlanta.  The show was one of the best experiences of my life!  I am so thankful to God for giving me the opportunity to be in a great show with great people!

On Tuesday’s Currents, you actually get to see and hear a little of my performance from the MAT Awards ceremony.  I wanted to thank the MAT Awards, emcee Jeff McKerley, MAT President Russ Ivey and a-List Image Makers of Atlanta for their help!

If you’re wondering about the outcome… I didn’t win the award, but I was thrilled to be nominated and to be able to perform on stage again!  As for the title of this blog… it has to do with the song I sang for the ceremony.  Check out the Tuesday show for a taste of it!

HERE are some pictures from the show.

“Try to Remember” is one of my favorite songs. Any chance of hearing you sing the entire song?

The Fantastiks is one of my favorite musicals! Like all good fiction it speaks deep truths about life and love. I saw it years ago in its original NYC production. A few years ago there was a NYC revival of it at the Snapple theater. I took my wife and son so that they could experience this show that has meant so much to me. I told my son that if he ever experienced a love like that of the couple in the play, he would be a very lucky guy. I did remember and followed! I hope some day he will too.
Thanks for the reminder!
