It’s not always easy to talk about sex, the human body, and the church, but did you know Pope John Paul II completed a whole study of the subject ? The resulting work: The Theology of the Body. It may sound somewhat cryptic, but a New Jersey man I sat down with last week, helps to make it easier to understand.

Damon Owens is a husband and father of six who founded Joy Filled Marriage of New Jersey. With his wife Melanie, he also teaches Natural Family Planning. He also teaches young adults about Pope John Paul’s message in the Theology of the Body, through the Theology of the Body Institute. Padre Pio Prayer Group 40th Anniversary – 3/9/10

Eucharistic Adoration has caught on in a big way at one church in
Manhattan – and you have to see it to believe it.

Every First Friday, hundreds of people turn out for an overnight
prayer vigil at Our Lady of Peace on the Upper East Side. It goes
from 9:30 at night to 5:30 the next morning. And this past First
Friday marked the 40th anniversary of this remarkable tradition.

Celebration of Teaching and Learning – 3/9/10

With the economy – and in particular, the job market – looking murky,
many adults – hundreds of thousands, in fact – are going back to school.

Some local teachers from the Brooklyn Diocese were among the many
educators who became students this past weekend. It wasn’t class
time, though – it was the fifth annual “Celebration of Teaching and
Learning.”

Sponsored by local PBS station Channel 13, it was a series of speakers
and discussions that showed teachers new ways of reaching students
that go beyond textbooks.

It all took place at the Hilton New York in Midtown Manhattan, and we
were there.

Today is International Women’s Day, and in Manhattan – a press
conference in Manhattan marked the start of a new effort to help
Mexican Nationals who are survivors of domestic abuse – and prevent
that abuse from occurring.

Futures – Angel Reception – 3/8/10

Here in Brooklyn, families who want to send their children to Catholic
School – but can’t afford it – have a place to turn.

Through the “Be An Angel to a Student” program, sponsors – known as
“Angels” – pay for part of a Catholic school student’s tuition. It’s
part of the Brooklyn Diocese’s Futures in Education Foundation, and
recently, the students had an opportunity to thank their angels.
