It was a pleasure for me to sit down with Glenn Mohr of the Glenn Mohr Chorale and Mother Margaret Charles of The Little Sisters of the Poor for today’s episode of Currents. You’ll remember that one of the most recently canonized saints, Jean Jugan, founded the Little Sisters of the Poor order of women religious.
The Glenn Mohr Chorale has had a special connection with the Little Sisters of the Poor for most of the musical group’s 20 year existence. Now that Jean Jugan has been canonized a saint, Glenn Mohr has written a musical about her life called “Hidden Heart.” Here’s the kicker: It’s playing Lincoln Center this weekend. That’s right. Lincoln Center!
According to the Lincoln Center website, “In a single act of charity, by taking a homeless aged woman into her home, she started a work over 170 years ago that spread quickly throughout Europe and the United States. By 1868, the Little Sisters established homes in the New York City area. Today, the Little Sisters operate more than two hundred long-term care homes for over 13,000 elderly people throughout the world; there are thirty-two homes in the United States, three of those homes are in the greater New York City area.”
Now, you can take a musical journey into the life of Saint Jean Jugan. For more information or tickets call 516-488-0600, 212-671-4050 or visit the Lincoln Center website.
