100 years ago a young lady was born in what was then called the Ottoman Empire. She knew at an early age that she was called to religious life and left home at 18 to join the Sisters of Loreto. Inspired to work among the poor, she received permission to start a religious order – and eventually founded the Missionaries of Charity. Her accomplishments were as great as she was humble.
We’re talking about Mother Teresa. And on the 100th anniversary of her birth, Bishop DiMarzio celebrated a Mass at Our Lady of Victory Church, in a neighborhood the Missionaries of Charity here in the borough call home – Bedford-Stuyvesant.
