Portland Portraits – 1/19/10

During the winter, we become more aware of the neediest around us –
and many charities reach out to those seeking shelter during the
coldest time of the year. A life can be changed by a warm bed and hot
meal. Here’s a resource you may not have considered: a camera.

We heard about an unusual ministry out in Portland, Oregon – one that
is spreading to other parts of the country. It involves taking
portraits of men and women who are served by a Catholic parish, The
Downtown Chapel in Portland. We were curious to learn more. So
earlier today, our Francesca Maxime spoke with the chapel’s pastoral
associate, Andrew Noethe.

I used to be homeless, and was at the Downtown Chapel in Portland, OR everyday. I think it is wonderful what they do there!!!! Having a place to go every morning was great. A cup of warm coffee, a bagel, and the most friendly helpful volunteers it was a great way to start the day, especially being homeless. I think the portrait project is awesome. The Downtown Chapel gave me hope. I will never forget the staff, Andy father Bob and Ron.
