There’s something new – or rather renewed – at a Catholic church in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. A rare pipe organ is being reinstalled at Our Lady of Refuge Church. The instrument, with its eighteen-hundred pipes, is one of only twenty-five still in existence.
Saving the historic piece became the mission of organ enthusiast and parishioner Joe Vitacco. He turned to other pipe organ people around the world for help. Our Lady of Refuge pastor Father Michael Perry explains how everything came together.
