Students are back in the swing of things as we begin the first full week of school. For one high school here in the Brooklyn Diocese, there’s a focus unlike any other. It’s the last school of its kind not only in our area, but in the entire country. It’s Cathedral Preparatory Seminary in Elmhurst, Queens – where young men are preparing for college and, just maybe, the priesthood. We recently paid the school a visit.
I suppose it depends how you define such things, but you might check out my alma mater, St. Lawrence Seminary High School in Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin. It’s run by the Capuchin Franciscans and we are celebrating 150 years this year.
Definitely worth your time to check it out– like Cathedral, it’s bearing great fruit and preparing young men for various forms of ministry in the Church. Go to http://www.stlawrence.edu

I am a 1970 graduate of Cathedral Prep (the Brooklyn campus), which was closed several years ago.
I will be married 38 years next month. My wife and I have been blessed with 2 daughters. One who married – we pray for a grandchild soon.
I was ordained to the Diocese of Dallas on 6/24/2006 and am JOYFULLY serving as Deacon at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Plano, TX.
Blessings,
Deacon Jack
Again, an excellent piece produced by the NET.
I am an alumnus and you captured the spirit of the school in a short segment.
I loved my four years there and I know those young men are getting an excellent education.
I will keep all in my prayers.
I am an Alumnus of Brooklyn Cathedral class of 1983. This was a great succinct piece capturing the Crusader Spirit. The video does however, erroneously mislabel the Brooklyn Prep as having closed in 1963 when in reality that didn’t occur until the late 80’s or early 90’s. Although I wasn’t called to the priesthood, the lessons learned at Cathedral in those formative years continue to guide me to this day. And for that, I will always remain grateful!
God Bless,
Louie D.
