The Iowa caucuses were closer than just about everyone predicted, but if polls are anything to go by, New Hampshire will be a much different story. Two polls of likely Republican primary voters in that state show Mitt Romney with about twice the support of the next closest challenger.
Romney, whose Mormon faith has been a hot topic during this election cycle, received a big boost from a group of prominent Catholics. Five former U.S. ambassadors to the Vatican endorsed the former Massachusetts governor on Saturday. In a letter, the group says Romney has the “experience, vision and commitment to the common good” that the country needs. The group is comprised of former ambassadors Thomas Malady, Ray Flynn, James Nicholson, Francis Rooney and Mary Ann Glendon. Both Flynn and Glendon have lived in Massachusetts. Flynn was Boston’s mayor from 1984 through 1993.
Meanwhile, former Pennsylvania Senator Santorum received a boost from another Catholic group – CatholicVote.org gave him its endorsement last week. To find out more about that, our News director, Ed Wilkinson spoke with the CatholicVote.org’s Communications Director, Joshua Mercer.
