Church Moving South? – 2/8/10
Get the Flash Player to see this player.

It’s no secret that a lot of Catholic parishes around the country are
closing or consolidating – it’s happened to dozens of churches, from
New Orleans to Boston to Cleveland, and it will be happening here in
Brooklyn in the months to come. It raises an interesting question:
what do you do with a church that has closed?

They’ve come up with a novel solution in upstate New York, where there
are plans to physically move a Catholic church that has closed…
transporting it hundreds of miles south… to the Archdiocese of Atlanta.

To get an idea of how this plan would work, I spoke earlier today with
the man who is spearheading this effort, Fr. David Dye, administrator
of Mary Our Queen parish in Norcross, Georgia.
