Could trips to Atlantic City, Foxwoods and maybe even Las Vegas become a thing of the past for New Yorkers? If Governor Andrew Cuomo has his way, the answer could likely be yes.

In his state of the state address last week, Cuomo proposed an amendment to the New York State constitution that would explicitly permit casino gambling in New York. Under current law, casinos are allowed on Indian reservations in the state – there are four in New York – and nine racetracks have electronic gambling – or virtual casinos. The proposed amendment would allow regular casinos anywhere in the state – with the aim to boost the sluggish economy.

But are their unintended consequences? To answer that question, our Liz Faublas spoke with Dennis Poust, the Communications Director for the New York State Catholic Conference.
