What a difference a couple of weeks make. Tonight, as Iowans head to the polls in the first official race of the 2012 campaign season, Newt Gingrich is no longer at the top of the Republican pack. The former House Speaker, one of two Catholics running for the GOP Presidential nod, has dropped 19 percentage points to fourth place among likely caucus goers, according to a CNN/Time poll. Meanwhile, the other Catholic in the race, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, has jumped ahead of Gingrich to third place.

Will it mean anything as Iowans gather to vote? To make sense of it all, our News Director, Ed Wilkinson, spoke with the Editor at Large of National Review Online, Kathryn Jean Lopez.
