It’s less than two days away – a time set aside to gather around the dinner table with family and friends. And while we give thanks for all that we have, we also take the opportunity to remember those less fortunate, like the more than one in five New Yorkers living in poverty.
With that need comes requests for assistance, and today Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens did just that. On what they call “Turkey Tuesday,” the organization gave out around 100 food baskets, which included everything needed to put together a full Thanksgiving meal: turkeys or turkey vouchers, stuffing, mash potatoes and gravy. We headed to the Catholic Charities Queens Community Center in Astoria for the big day.
“Turkey Tuesday” was made possible by a number of organizations who donated food, including the Knights of Columbus, Holy Cross High School, Most Precious Blood School and Fidelis Care. A big “thank you” to them and all the other companies for their generosity.
