From Harvard to Religious Life – 7/19/10

Last month, a young woman graduating from Harvard got a lot of attention for this speech.

Don’t check your computer. That’s Latin. That young woman, Mary Anne Marks was delivering Harvard’s annual Latin oration – and clearly doing it with gusto. It was picked up by websites and blogs around the world.

But what also got attention is that Mary Anne isn’t going to graduate school, or entering the business world. After graduating summa cum laude from Harvard…she’s about to enter the convent.

She’s joining the Dominicans – the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, in Ann Arbor… the same nuns featured recently on Oprah.

Mary Anne is a native of Queens – she belongs to Our Lady Queen of Martyrs parish in Forest Hills. And she stopped by last week to share some of her story and talk about her vocation.
