Sunday may have been a day of recovery for many people out there, following a night – and early morning – of festivities to ring in the new year. But for one group of people, January 1st was another reason to celebrate. It was on that day, back in 1804 that Haiti gained its independence. Here in Brooklyn, the Diocese’s Haitian Apostolate gathered at St. Teresa of Avila Church to mark that anniversary. It was also an opportunity for one priest to bid farewell to the apostolate and another to take over the reigns.
