Into The Deep: Hurricane Sandy 11/01/12

It may only be 2012, but Hurricane Sandy is likely to remain the storm of the century throughout all the years ahead.

At least 38 people are dead in our area, with more than 70 total in the U-S. The recovery may take years.

One of the hardest hit areas is Breezy Point, where 111 homes were destroyed as fire spread. Twenty others were seriously damaged.

No one was killed. But dozens of people were trapped until rescued by firefighters who fought through neck-high floodwaters to get to the people.

Officials are saying that it could take years to rebuild the neighborhood.

Bishop DiMarzio is acting already. He toured the devastation on Wednesday. He is also calling on all of us to help. He visited our Currents studios to discuss with our New Director Ed Wilkinson what is happening now and what needs to be done next.
