It was a week ago today that a massive earthquake struck the island
nation of Haiti – and the country still has urgent needs. Haitian
officials now estimate 200 thousand people have died – and hundreds of
thousands more are living in tent cities around the nation’s capital
of Port-Au-Prince.
Haitians remain hopeful, however, and those hopes were in the hearts
of many here in Brooklyn who came together for a special Mass at Holy
Cross Church in Flatbush this past Friday.
Auxiliary Bishop Guy Sansaricq, the first Haitian-American Bishop in
the U.S., was the main celebrant – and Father Donelson Thevenin
preached the homily in both English – and Creole.
