We’re just a couple of days away from the second anniversary of the devastating earthquake on the island nation of Haiti. The magnitude 7.0 quake killed 250 thousand people and affected three and a half million overall. It left a path of destruction, leveling much of the capital, Port au Prince, including the city’s cathedral.

Two years later, and though rebuilding continues in their home country, the faith of Haitian Catholics is as strong as ever. This past weekend, at the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston, Queens, the Brooklyn Diocese Haitian Apostolate gathered for a gala celebration.
