Peace on Earth Concert – 12/1/09
Get the Flash Player to see this player.

Advent my have just started, but, to quote a familiar song: “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.”

The lights, the decorations, the shoppers – it’s the beginning of December and already the whole city is taking on that “Christmas-y” feel.

And if you listen closely you’ll find that it’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas, too. Last week we told you about one of the hottest tickets of the holiday season, The Daughters of St. Paul, who are selling CDs and selling out concert halls around the country.

They were in Brooklyn on Monday night, singing at St. Athanasius Parish in Bensonhurst.  And Currents was there to soak it all in and talk with the sisters about their remarkable ministry.  You can find out more about the Daughters of St. Paul here.

Peace on Earth???

Aren’t humans amazing Animals? They kill wildlife – birds, deer, all kinds of cats, coyotes, beavers, groundhogs, mice and foxes by the million in order to protect their domestic animals and their feed.

Then they kill domestic animals by the billion and eat them. This in turn kills people by the million, because eating all those animals leads to degenerative – and fatal – - health conditions like heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and cancer.

So then humans spend billions of dollars torturing and killing millions of more animals to look for cures for these diseases.

Elsewhere, millions of other human beings are being killed by hunger and malnutrition because food they could eat is being used to fatten domestic animals.

Meanwhile, few people recognize the absurdity of humans, who kill so easily and violently, and once a year send out cards praying for “Peace on Earth.”

Hello, JC!

I am a member of the choir, and I’m vegetarian.
Since original sin, everything has been messed up. Everyone eating each other. But it won’t be that way in the “new heavens and new earth,” the “PEACEable Kingdom”!
Check out the Humane Society of USA (www.hsus.org)’s new “Eating Mercifully” DVD. It was put out by their new department: Animals and Religion.

God bless,
Sr. Helena <
