It’s been one of the most controversial construction projects in recent years in New York City. Plans for the Atlantic Yards project in Brooklyn’s Prospect Heights were unveiled in 2003. Now, after years of delays, court battles and confusion, the official groundbreaking on the site will be held next week.
Atlantic Yards will include the Barclays Center, which will be the home stadium of the relocated New Jersey Nets, numerous high-rise apartment buildings, and commercial and retail space. And a major concern for many people is how the construction will affect the neighborhood, its residents, and parishioners of the nearby Church of St. Joseph. Our Matt McClure found out when he visited the neighborhood today.
