They came from around the world, invited to this special event by the Vatican. No, we’re not talking about the beatification of John Paul II, which happened on Sunday, but another gathering that took place a day later.

Yesterday, the Holy See’s Council for Social Communications hosted the Vatican’s very first conference of bloggers. According to the head of the council, the purpose of the gathering was dialogue with the bloggers and to recognize the unique role that bloggers play in the world of communication.

Among those in attendance were a couple of faces that will be familiar to NET viewers. Elizabeth Scalia is the bloggers known as the Anchoress. In addition to being the Managing Editor of Catholic Content at Patheos.com and a weekly columnist for First Things, Elizabeth is a regular panelist on NET’s public affairs show In The Arena.
