A little about the Artists:

Ade Richardson (The Big Catch)

Ade Toussaint Richardson was born in Johnson City, NY, on August 28, 1977, and spent his first few years in nearby Binghamton. His father, Boston University professor Ronald Kent Richardson introduced Ade to American, European and Japanese films and film history at an early age. By the time he was ten Ade was an avid film student, regularly patronizing neighborhood movie theatres and collecting videos. A part in an elementary school production of Oliver gave him taste for the theatre and fueled his passion for acting. Ade grew up on the border of Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights in Brooklyn, New York, benefiting from the rich cultural and ethnic diversity of the area. His parents discovered his talent at the age thirteen when he began to put on plays featuring his two younger sisters as actors. Then people in his neighborhood inspired the characters that he would create. Ade’s talent for film directing was developed at Brooklyn College, where he studied under professor Robert Tutak. While at Brooklyn College Ade directed several films including “The Red Apple” 2004, and “Wedding Visitor.” His film “The Big Catch” 2006, was nominated top 5 of 100 films entered into the Brooklyn College film festival, he was also nominated best writer/Director. Ade has also directed several short films, and a music video. His latest directorial work “Cardinal Sins,” is a surrealistic exploration of the human psyche. Ade is currently in preproduction for his film “Roof Top Heist” story of a world without food, and “Freed”, a story about a run away slave. “The Big Catch” selected for the Faith Film Festival was inspired by Ade’s desire to share a message that we all have a higher propose in life, one that extends beyond our own personal wants and desires. Through love, understanding, and service we find want we are searching for.

Jeong Mo Yang (Flashlight)

Give me a 2B pencil and a blank sheet of paper; then you have given me freedom. Yes, I’m an artist, a comic book artist (www.comiking.com). Storyboards, concept arts, graphic arts are also my playgrounds, but comic books is my first love, mainly because of its power of storytelling. Speaking of storytelling, what better way to tell stories than through films? Flashlight is my first babe, my first creation, my first short film. It was shot with a great crew (we called ourselves J-walkers), who had absolutely no experience at filmmaking whatsoever, just like me.  If we had a slogan, it should have been “just do it” because that was what we exactly did: we’ve got the camera rolling, boom mike hanging, and just shot the film. Thanks to deadlines, we could not shoot some of the scenes, so I drew the scenes and placed them in the film as animatics. I had so much fun making this film and I learned so much, not only about filmmaking, but also about teamwork. If comic book is my first love, I must admit that I’m having an affair with movies lately. With Flashlight as my first baby step toward my filming carrier, I’m planning to dedicate myself completely to this race, and since I’m at it, I’m going to go all out!! Thank you God for this awesome privilege.
