Haiti

 

  • The name Haiti is derived from an ancient word which meant Land of Mountains in the language of  its original inhabitants. 
  • French and Haitian Creole are both spoken today
  • 80% of the population are Roman Catholics
  • Haiti shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic
  • New York City has the second largest Haitian population in the United States
